formed hallucination

formed hallucination
Also known as formed visual hallucination, formed vision, organized hallucination, and morphopsia. All five terms are used to denote a visual hallucination depicting a distinctive shape, pattern, object, or scene. Thus the category of formed hallucinations comprises the group of * geometric hallucinations, as well as the group of * complex visual hallucinations. The notion of formed hallucination derives from a classification of visual hallucinations that employs phe-nomenological form as a guiding principle. It is used in opposition to the notion of * unformed hallucination. Although it has traditionally been used with regard to the visual modality, the term formed hallucination can also denote an auditory hallucination which exceeds the level of static noise or * figments.
