visual sleep start
   A term used to denote a photopsia (i.e. a flash of light) which may occasionally accompany the * auditory sleep start. Phenomenologi-cally, the visual sleep start shows certain similarities to the * sound phosphene. For a further explanation, see the entry Exploding head syndrome.
